In our house, we always have homemade sourdough on rotation, but we get that not everyone has the time (or patience) to make their own sourdough. So if you still want that satisfaction of pulling out a warm loaf of bread from the oven, without the time commitment, then this Guinness bread is the way to go.
Ingredients
- 400g whole wheat flour
- 100g rolled oats, plus extra for the top
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 70g walnuts, roughly chopped
- 1 tbsp molasses
- 1 tbsp golden syrup
- 330ml Guinness
- 170ml buttermilk
Method
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- In a large mixing bowl, mix the whole wheat flour, rolled oats, baking soda, salt, and walnuts.
- In a separate large bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, Guinness, molasses, and golden syrup.
- Create a well in the bowl with the dry ingredients, then add the wet ingredients. Stir together until well-combined.
- Lightly butter a loaf tin and line with parchment paper. Transfer the dough into the tin. Sprinkle a handful of rolled oats onto the top. Bake in the oven 45 minutes.
- Once done, transfer the bread onto a wire rack and let cool before slicing in.
Christine & Marissa’s Tip
“We love to serve this with some cream cheese, smoked salmon, and thinly sliced cucumber. It also works great alongside soup!”
