If you’re looking for an easy bread to make, then this Irish Soda Bread is perfect! Unlike other breads, there is no proofing required. Once the dough is made, put it in the oven, and that’s it! Such an easy way to have homemade bread.

Serves: 4

Ingredients

  • 200g of all purpose flour
  • 350g of whole wheat flour
  • 2 teaspoons of baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 200ml of plain yogurt
  • 300ml of milk

Method

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 425°F.
  2. Sift the all purpose flour, salt, and baking soda into a large mixing bowl. Then add in the wholewheat flour. Mix until all is combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the yogurt and milk. Using your hands, make a well in the centre of the flour, then slowly pour the mixture into the well. Begin by using a fork to combine the flour and milk mixture, then use your hands until the dough is formed. *Note: save a little bit of the milk mixture for later.
  4. It is quite a wet mixture, so pat your hands with flour and transfer the dough to a lightly floured baking tray and shape until round. Lightly flour the top and cut the shape of a cross about 3/4 of a way into the dough.
  5. With the rest of the milk mixture, brush the top of the bread. Bake in the oven at 425°F for 15 minutes, then lower to 350°F for a further 25 minutes. Leave to cool on a cooling rack.
